"SPORTS
CAR PROVED ON SALT FLATS".
From
The Post, Thursday 30th October 2003.
I
do not suppose you need to be told, but MG always has produced a fast
sports car.
Down through the years its models have been vying for pole position
on road, rally and race tracks.
So I was not surprised to learn earlier in October that a ZT-T, code
name X-15 had reached 225.609mph on the Bonneville salt flats and
that MG Rover were applying to Guiness World Records for the world's
fastest estate car record title.
The Group is delighted and so it should be. If it can produce cars
with this turn of speed, just think what it will do for its road car
sales. If you can produce a car that can be so reliable under extreme
speed, you can build a car that will be equally reliable at legal
road limits. (John Connor).
"MG
XPOWER SV HIGH PERFORMANCE SPORTS CAR ON SALE FROM NOVEMBER 1, 2003".
"The
Race Car Built for the Road",
MG Sport & Racing has today announced the sales launch of the
MG XPower SV, a car which catapults the Company into competition with
the best of the world's performance vehicle manufacturers.
The entry level model is powered by a 320 hp 4.6 litre all aluminium
quad cam V8 engine which propels the MG XPower SV to 60 mph in 5.3
seconds and on to a top speed of circa 165 mph. Automatic and higher
powered SV-R versions will be available next year. Customers can also
specify the engine from the 225 mph MG ZT-T Bonneville rated at 765
hp (and beyond if required) which will give top speeds of well over
200 mph and suitably electrifying acceleration.
The
first class performance of the SV is complemented by its distinctive
interior. In keeping with the vehicle's sporting heritage both front
seats are specified with full inertia four belt harnesses, which are
lockable for serious driving by the flick of a switch. Each cabin
is trimmed with the customer's choice of six leather finishes. Competition
seats and fascias are available in a combination of leather and Alcantara
allowing each vehicle to be uniquely personalised.
Designed by a team led by Peter Stevens, whose previous designs have
included the McLaren F1, the MG XPower SV benefits from state of the
art technology. Central to the car's DNA is a finely tuned chassis
designed along race car principles bonded to a lightweight carbon
fibre body with an integral rollover cage.
The chassis and carbon body are both constructed in the heartland
of the Italian supercar industry. Final vehicle assembly takes place
at MG Sport & Racing's newly established HQ at Longbridge, Birmingham
by a dedicated team of skilled craftsmen.
Director of MG Sport & Racing Kim Johnson said: "The MG XPower
SV, which combines high reserves of power and motor racing safety
features, is a true race car which has been built for the road. It
can either lead on the track or cruise along the King's Road. It is
the ultimate MG."
Former F1 driver Mark Blundell said: "The MG XPower SV is aggressive
and raw, and at the same time stylish and refined. I have driven many
of the world's top sports cars and this car is in the same league.
From the unique sound of the exhaust to the precision steering the
MG XPower SV has all the qualities I look for in a sports car."
The MG XPower SV line up starts from £75,000 and will be available
through a network of specialist XPower dealerships, or directly from
the MG Sport & Racing factory.
Further information about the MG XPower SV sports car, including sales
enquiries, is available from:

"Think
Electric - the way ahead for motoring world?".
(From 'The Cannock & Rugeley Mercury, 30th October
2003')
A
new technology concept was unveiled at the recent MIA 'Clean Racing
Conference', by Rob Oldaker, product development manager, MG Rover
Group and John Wood, managing director, MIRA.
The 'hybrid' performance development is apetrol/electric powered MG
TF featuring a combined output of 200Ps deployed through all four
wheels.
MIRA engineers in consultation with MG Rover Group set a goal to produce
a power system that was functional and delivered tangible environmental
benefits, with a wide performance potential for motorsport applications.
Rob Oldaker commented: "The 200 HPD is the culmination of two
talented Midlands-based companies, bringing together their expertise
to create this car, that perfectly illustrates the vision of the Clean
Racing Conference".
Although outwardly this special MG TF looks like any other model,
underneath it packs some very clever technology.

While
the production car is rear wheeled drive, the 200 HPD boasts an electric
drive system connected to the car's front wheels. For city driving
this unit can be used instead of the cars conventional engine, but
also work in tandem with the petrol motor for when a more spirited
driving experience is required.
The 200 HPD shaves almost a second off the 0-60mph time of the conventional
car thanks to the electric motor's 40Ps power contribution.
"NEW
MG TO FLEX ITS MUSCLES".
from
Evening Mail - Wed. Sept. 24, 2003.
MG Rover today launched its first 'muscle car'.
The new V8 powered MG-ZT 260 V8 boasts a top speed of 155mph.
Rob Oldaker, product development director said: "The new V8 heralds
the return of the practical British muscle car. The more you drive
it, the more you appreciate its unique 'muscle car' character that
flies in the face of our competitors' trend towards buzzy high-revving
engines".
"Its introduction means MG now has the broadest range in its
80 year history."
The new MG will be a competitor to other manufacturers, like BMW.

"NOP
SURVEY: MG BEATS BMW FIVE-NIL - AD CAMPAIGN WILL REVEAL".
Britain's MG Rover has scored an historic victory over Germany's BMW,
beating the famous marque five-nil in an independent consumer survey
carried out by researchers NOP. The results will feature in national
press advertising campaign, starting July 19.
The
testing took place at Croft Racing Circuit. NOP assembled a panel
of more than 100 consumers to assess the similarly priced MGZT 190+
and the BMW 318i SE. The panel judged both models across five categories.
Using a combination of driving exercises, questionnaires and interviews
the panel evaluated the cars on quality of exterior and interior,
driving experience and performance, handling, driving enjoyment and
overall desirability.
The
research revealed that the BMW lost considerable ground to the MG
on the road. More than 90% of the panel judged the MG to outperform
the BMW, which trailed the MG for throttle response, straight-line
performance, acceleration, braking, sportiness and top speed. Seventy-one
per cent favoured the handling of the British car, which recorded
higher scores for responsiveness, cornering, agility, ride quality,
road holding and body roll.
An
overwhelming 86% enjoyed the overall driving experience more, behind
the wheel of the MG, compared to just 14% that enjoyed the BMW. Reasons
cited for this by respondents included the car's character, the excitement
of the drive and the impression the car makes in a crowd.
When
it came to looks, functional yet dull German design lost out to eyecatching
British styling. In the appearance category, the MG outpointed the
BMW for sportiness and distinctiveness while the model's overall looks
were considered by 75% of the respondents to be more impressive than
the German car.
The
BMW interior was also marked down. It was beaten by MG for colour,
comfort, roominess, styling, seat support and dashboard appearance.
Overall, only 20% of the panellists preferred the German interior,
compared to 80% that opted for the MG.
Finally,
almost all (91%) of the respondents stated they believed the MG was
better value for money than the BMW.
John
Edwards, sales and marketing director, MG Rover commented: "You
always take a bit of a risk when you commission an independent survey,
that makes direct comparisons with the competition. We were fairly
confident that the same money buys a lot more MG than BMW but we were
completely bowled over by the results, which gave a conclusive victory
to the MG ZT. Five-nil seems to be a familiar result when we take
on Germany".

full survey can be viewed at www.mgbeatsbmw.com

RESULTS. MG WORKS ENTRY - MG ZS EX261".
Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship. Rounds 9 & 10 at
Rockingham
Race
1. Weather Sunny/Track Dry
Car
no. 4 Anthony Reid Position: 6th
Car no. 5 Colin Turkington Position: D.N.F
Car no. 6 Warren Hughes Position: 8th
MG Sport & Racing came to Rockingham determined to get a podium
position at the UK's newest race circuit in Corby. The racing provided
the large crowd with the most exciting of the series.
At the end of the first lap MGs occupied 3rd, 5th and 7th places,
but on lap 4 Colin Turkington was forced to retire with an engine
problem.
Lap 7 brought out the safety car. Anthony Reid's MG suffered most
as he had been well ahead of Muller at that point. By the restart
at lap 11, the field had bunched right up. As the field streamed into
Deene hairpin, suspension damage caused earlier forced Reid to go
wide, letting Muller and Hughes in the other MG through.
Reid's commitment in the chicane was chilling. Sadly the front suspension
broke two corners from the end, but managed to finish. The resultant
6th place was scant reward for an epic drive. Team mate Warren Hughes
and Collard's Astra were almost alongside at the finish.
Race 2. Weather Overcast /Track Dry
Car
no. 4 Anthony Reid Position: 2nd
Car no. 5 Colin Turkington Position: D.N.F
Car no. 6 Warren Hughes Position: 3rd
Reid made a storming start from 6th on the grid and was challenging
for second place at the hairpin where Neal's Honda engine blew. In
the resultant confusion Anthony Reid emerged in the lead with Hughes
in 7th place. Again Colin Turkington had no luck at all and was forced
to retire on lap 2.
Reid continued to lead through the pit stops, but on lap 17 Bentwood
collided with Boardman on the start finish line forcing the safety
car to come out whilst debris was cleared. To add to the drama, the
weather took a turn for the worse with dark clouds and lightning.
Racing re-commenced on lap 22. Reid led into the hairpin but slid
wide enough for Muller to take the lead. Hughes forced his way into
3rd and the positions were held to the finishing line, rewarding MG
and WSR with a double podium.
Commenting
on the weekend, Anthony Reid said: "It's been a fantastic weekend
and WSR have really got the car to work well. I was really disappointed
to lose 1st place so close to the end but 2nd is our best result so
far. Warren Hughes added: "The stops were really good and I am
pleased to have got fastest lap time in the race 2 and third place
overall.
Dick
Bennett, managing director, WSR said: "The racing seems to be
getting much more exciting. I am disappointed for Colin this weekend,
but for Anthony and Warren getting a double podium this weekend is
a great result for the drivers, MG and WSR.

"MG
ZR WINS CLASS ON SCOTTISH RALLY".
A STORMING drive from start to finish, saw newly-paired Gwyndaf Evans
and Claire Mole win the Super 1600 class in the two day 2003 Scottish
Rally in their MG ZR.
The Dumfries-based event was always set to be a major test for the Creative
Media Communications/MG Sport & Racing backed MG ZR, covering some
of the roughest and toughest stages in the whole of the British Rally
Championship calendar.
Gwyndaf was first paired with Scottish-based Claire for the recent all
tarmac Rally of the Midlands, which they also won. A venture into the
boulder-strewn forest of Galloway was a tough test for a new partnership,
but all went well according to Gwyndaf. He said: "We had a small
problem with the intercom, but Claire did a fine job under difficult
circumstances."
Describing the weekend Gwyndaf said: "It was excellent; a particularly
fast rally, quite hard on everything. The car was very good, very strong,
in fact the best it's ever been in terms of performance and reliability.
We had one puncture, which cost us about 20 seconds, then there was
the dust which made driving conditions difficult."
In addition to the class win, the team finished fifth overall in the
event and was also presented with the Best-placed Mixed Crew award,
a first for Gwyndaf.
With the team now leading the Super 1600 category of the British Rally
Championship, the stakes have just been raised for when the crews head
north in July to tackle Britain's only closed public road tarmac event,
the Jim Clark Memorial Rally.

ROVER APPOINT NEW DEALERSHIPS".
MG Rover Group has today announced the appointment of four new UK dealerships.
The appointments are part of a long-term strategy to increase the network
size with high quality outlets, and to fill open points which will result
in customers never being too far away from a dealership.
In Dartford, the prestigious Whitehouse group are set to open their
second MG Rover dealership while in Milton Keynes, the Souls organisation
will open an all new dealership.
Moving further north, the Horner group will open a new dealership in
Rochdale bringing their total number of MG Rover outlets to five. Also,
Moss Rose will open a new dealership in Macclesfield.
Welcoming the new dealership appointments, John Jarvie, MG Rover Group
head of dealer franchising said: "We are pleased that dealer groups
already working with MG Rover Group are keen to extend their relationships.
The appointments reflect the high level of confidence in the MG Rover
franchise along with the knowledge of incremental business opportunities
that will result from future product introductions."

"MG
ROVER EXPANDS MOTORWAY SERVICES SALES DRIVE".
A pilot scheme to showcase MG and Rover products at the Welcome Break
M40 Oxford services (J8) has proved so popular and beneficial, that
the project is being expanded to other sites. The South Mimms M25 Welcome
Break services has just become operational, with more sites planned
in the coming months.
Since the project started in January, thousands of individuals have
expressed specific interest in the sample product display, itself generating
a significant number of prospects and sales. Others have requested further
product information, taken up test drives and more have since visited
local dealers expressing intent to buy in the future.
John Sanders, Sales and Marketing Director, MG Rover Group, commented:
"In yet another example of doing things differently, we've shown
the benefit of reaching out to our customers in a very relevant environment
and our association with Welcome Break has already proved to be a successful
working partnership.
Welcome Break Chief Executive, George Charters, said: "This is
an innovative approach to marketing cars and we're delighted to be working
closely with MG Rover. More than three million people visit the South
Mimms Services annually and we're certain that it provides MG Rover
with a fantastic opportunity to promote their cars."

"RACE
RESULTS MG WORKS ENTRY - MG ZS EX261".
Rounds
7 & 8 at Silverstone. Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship.
Race
1. Weather Sunny / Track Dry:
Car
no. 5 Colin Turkington Position: 3rd
Car no. 4 Anthony Reid Position: 10th
Car no. 6 Warren Hughes Position: D.N.F
MG Sport & Racing came to Silverstone determined to secure the
season's first podium win. Warren Hughes and Colin Turkington qualified
in 4th and 5th positions respectively and continued to hold this throughout
the race.
After 21 laps, leading driver Matt Neal driving a Honda Civic was
forced to retire through a technical problem and immediately Colin
and Anthony were promoted into 3rd and 4th positions. Warren Hughes
drove a most capable race but at the 23rd lap was forced to retire
through an electrical issue. This put Colin into 3rd position, giving
MG the first podium win of the season.
Anthony
Reid made good progress throughout the race but his efforts were thwarted
after his pitstop resulting in the need for a "drive through".
The resultant time penalty saw Anthony eventually finishing in 10th
position.
Race 2. Weather Overcast / Track Dry:
Car
no. 6 Warren Hughes Position: 3rd
Car no. 4 Anthony Reid Position: 4th
Car no. 5 Colin Turkington Position: 8th
Having secured the first podium position, the MG team set off to seek
another award. Having qualified in 3rd position Colin Turkington's
performance was affected by the success ballast he was carrying. Colin's
pitstop was incredibly fast but he came back on the circuit behind
a number of slower cars which inevitably impacted on his final result.
Commenting on the day Colin said: "I had an excellent first race
giving MG the first podium award of the season. Unfortunately with
all the success ballast I couldn't repeat this performance in the
second race. With only three kgs of success ballast for Rockingham,
I feel confident for further success. This has been a great day for
both MG, WSR and all the drivers."
In contrast Anthony Reid who qualified in 10th position quickly manoeuvred
up the field to a position where a podium finish looked most likely.
Unfortunately, Anthony's efforts took a set back in lap 5 with a damaged
exhaust system. There was a small loss of power and despite some excellent
driving Anthony was only able to get the MG home in 4th position.
Anthony stated: "After a difficult start we are now showing real
progress. Our pitstops were excellent especially in the second race.
I am very pleased with the MG's set up which we will take to Rockingham."
From 11th position on the grid, Warren Hughes skilfully drove through
the field up to 3rd position. Both Warren and Anthony put in some
excellent times and were well in front of the following cars. A revised
set-up has been applied to the MG's and this has obviously given a
major boost to their competitiveness.
Commenting on his performance Warren said: "I am delighted for
MG and the whole team to get a second podium place today. This has
been a good weekend and I have no doubts that we can continue our
progress. I will be carrying 42 kgs of success ballast for the Rockingham
race but will give it my best.
Summarising
on what has been a good day, Dick Bennett's, managing director, WSR
said: "I am very pleased with the excellent progress and especially
pleased for Colin and Warren for their podium wins. Our pitstops continued
to be excellent and we now look forward to making further improvements
for Rockingham. This has been a good day for WSR, AER and of course
for MG."
Kim
Johnson, director MG Sport & Racing was full of praise for the
whole team and said: "A lot of hard work has been undertaken
to improve the cars performance and handling. This has given us the
season's first two podium w ins and we will continue to make further
enhancements. Overall a good team effort reflecting the dedication
of everyone involved."

Commenting
on this addition, Kim Johnson, director, MG Sport & Racing, said:

buyers are equally impressed by safety and style. The XPower Roll
Hoops do this with great effect."

"MG
ZR TAKES TOP HONOURS IN MIDLANDS RALLY".
Gwyndaf
Evans headed up a clean sweep and 100% finish for the MG team at the
weekend as he took a Class win and overall victory in his MG ZR Super1600
in The Rally of the Midlands (17/18 May).
Gwyndaf,
co-driven by Clare Mole, achieved top spot from over 40 entries on
a weekend which saw the streets of Nuneaton, Bedworth, Hinckley and
Atherstone turned into rally stages. The event was an ideal opportunity
for some valuable testing on tarmac in preparation for the season
ahead.
Finishing
top of the class after 18 stages Gwyndaf said: "I'm very happy
to have won the very first Rally of the Midlands. It was a good event
for myself, MG and the organisers. The car ran faultlessly and it's
a great feeling to come away with a win."
Class
honours were taken by Tim Seipel (Class 1) and Rob Stone (Class 3)
who competed in Group N MG ZR's. Runner-up in Class 3 was another
MG ZR driven by Don Kettleborough.
The
rally was staged following a unique partnership known as Motorsport
in the Midlands, an initiative that sees backing from local councils
and authorities. It is the same partnership which sees MG Sport &
Racing supporting the recently launched MG ZR Rally Scholarship scheme.

"MG
READY TO TAKE ON THRUXTON CHALLENGE".
MG
ZS drivers Anthony Reid, Warren Hughes and Colin Turkington will head
south this weekend to the fastest circuit on the British Touring Car
Championship calendar. Thruxton plays host to rounds 5 & 6 of
the Championship and after a promising performance from the MG Sport
& Racing team at Brands Hatch last time out the team will be looking
to secure that all important first podium finish.
Anthony
Reid will be carrying an additional 9kg of success ballast following
his impressive 4th place in the final round at Brands Hatch. On entering
the race at a slightly heavier weight Anthony said: "I think
the car will go well at Thruxton based on the testing session we completed
in April. We know a great deal more about the Dunlop control tyre
and the areas where we experienced weaknesses last year have been
vastly improved. I'm very optimistic at our chances."
Warren
Hughes was denied a podium place in round 3 at Brands Hatch. A collision
with another car sent him off into the gravel on the final corner
of the race. Heading to Thruxton weight free Warren said: "At
Brands Hatch I feel we learnt a lot about the car and in particular
about the new Dunlop tyres. Although Thruxton is almost the opposite
extreme to Brands Hatch with long fast corners I believe we will be
very competitive. I don't believe the results to date are a true reflection
of the MG ZS's competitiveness and hopefully at Thruxton we'll be
able to show what the car is capable of."
Colin
Turkington was also denied some silverware after his determined drive
in the last round. A podium place was in his sights before he came
under increased pressure and ultimately contact from James Thompson,
which resulted in the MG ZS heading off into the barrier. This time
out Colin's MG ZS will be 24kg lighter and commenting on his prospects,
he said: "Due to the fact I was second quickest on the official
test day at Thruxton, I have every reason to go into the race full
of confidence. The MG showed great pace at Brands Hatch, enabling
me to run consistently at the front and I am expecting no less at
Thruxton."
Kim
Johnson, director, MG Sport & Racing added: "The MG ZS really
showed its potential at Brands Hatch and we'll be carrying limited
weight for the opening round at Thruxton, which is a bonus. Thruxton
is a speed circuit with huge potential for overtaking but also huge
potential for error. Our engine developers AER together with our own
sister company Powertrain have worked extremely hard on increasing
the power output of the K-series engine. We are keen to achieve our
first podium finish and are positive that this is well within our
grasp."

"MG
ROVER GROUP RE-ENTERS THE JAPANESE MARKET".
In
conjunction with their partner Autotrading Luft, MG Rover Group is
pleased to announce that it will shortly re-commence sales of MG and
Rover cars in Japan. Both MG and Rover cars previously enjoyed much
success in the Japanese market. After much praise from the motoring
press Rover 75 was voted Import car of the year. Unfortunately,
due to contractual obligations with the previous owner,
MG Rover Group has until now been restricted from selling its cars
in Japan. Autotrading Luft is based in Nagoya and will trade under
MG Rover Nippon. Sales will start during July with a focus on Rover
75 Saloon and Tourer, MG TF plus MG ZT and MG ZT-T. Initially six
retail outlets will be fully operational, progressively increasing
to over 20.

"MG
ANNOUNCED AS OFFICIAL PARTNER IN MG ZR RALLY SCHOLARSHIP".
MG
Sport & Racing is pleased to announce that it has been chosen
as the manufacturer to support a new motorsport initiative in the
Midlands. Motorsport in the Midlands in association with Advantage
West Midlands (AWM) and the East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA)
have joined together to launch a unique rally programme 'The MG ZR
Rally Scholarship'.
The
cars supplied for the programme will be based upon the 1.4-litre MG
ZR105. The MG ZR competed in both Group N and Super1600 classes during
2002 and amongst the entries were well-known names such as Gwyndaf
Evans and Formula One panellist Tony Jardine. The standard road cars
will be modified to Group N specification and include a built-in roll
cage, competition seats, full race harnesses, fire extinguishers,
sump and tank guards, stiffer suspension, dampers and competition
brakes.
The scheme will be run in various stages starting with a competition
in regional newspapers attracting young talent of both sexes between
the ages of 18-25. Up to 200 candidates will be selected and tested
on their vehicle knowledge, stamina and driving ability. A winner
from each of the 10 regions will be shortlisted to complete a full
programme of testing in the MG ZR before tackling selective national
rallies.
After
achieving MSA (Motor Sports Association) accreditation all 10 competitors
will be entered in the British Rally Championship. An individual points
system will be devised to support the scheme and drivers will not
only be awarded points for their ability to finish a rally but have
points deducted for damage. As
a
further incentive the winner of the series will be offered the opportunity
to drive an MG ZR Super1600 rally car. Opportunities really don't
come any better than this.
Competitors
will receive the added bonus of tuition from experienced rally legend
Gwyndaf Evans and also receive training in dealing with media exposure,
fitness and vehicle dynamics. Talking of his involvement with the
scheme Gwyndaf said: "I believe this scholarship sounds the most
exciting ever launched in Britain.
"It's
a genuine opportunity to bring MG, rallying and new blood together.
I'll be heavily involved with the assessments and will be offering
my support and help throughout the scholarship."
MG
has a long history of being in motorsport and more recently has competed
in Le Mans, British Touring Car Championship and rally in both the
domestic and world-wide arenas. Commenting on MG's support for the
scholarship Kim Johnson, director, MG Sport & Racing said: "We're
delighted to be involved with such an innovative idea. MG is a sporting
brand and the scholarship fits perfectly within our motorsport portfolio.
To promote the Midlands whilst discovering new talent is an added
bonus and contestants will have the perfect teacher in Gwyndaf Evans.
Bring all this together with the support of Motorsport in the Midlands,
AWM, EMDA, the media and our network of MG Rover dealers and we have
a winning combination."
Motorsport
in the Midlands were involved from the early days with MG Sport &
Racing in developing the idea into reality. Managing director, Peter
Young said: "Professional footballers start their career kicking
a 50p ball against a wall, but how can a youngster become a professional
rally driver without very rich parents?
"From
today, MG Sport & Racing, supported by AWM and EMDA, will change
that scenario, and I am pleased that Creative Media Communications
(the company responsible for promoting Motorsport in the Midlands)
have been able to bring about the tremendously exciting project."
Mike
Clarke, business development manager for transport technology industries,
Advantage West Midlands, said: "Motorsport is a large and dynamic
industry that thrives on the back of both sporting spectacles and
participation. By making it easier for people to participate in this
sport, we are introducing rallying to an entire audience who would
otherwise be only able to watch from the sidelines. Our overall aim
is to develop and support this important industry. It can then face
the challenges and opportunities of the future and so add a valuable
contribution to the skills, employment and economy in the area."
Graham
Brown, cluster development manager (Motorsport) at the East Midlands
Development Agency said: "EMDA is delighted to be associated
with this innovative scheme. The opportunity for complete novices
to prove their rally driving talent and compete at no cost for a fully
funded works drive is rare indeed. With local communities able to
follow the exploits of their adopted driver over the course of a championship
season, this scheme will help demonstrate that motorsport can be much
more accessible than is commonly believed. This should increase participation
in the sport and aid development in the area."
North
Warwickshire and Hinckley College will also be assisting the programme
by providing motor vehicle technicians as service support crews during
rallies. The crews will be selected from full-time students currently
enrolled on the Level Two Technical Certificate (bodywork or mechanical).

legendary Brooklands, home of the world's first race circuit. Built
in 1907 it now houses a museum collection of aviation and motoring
exhibits and will once again reverberate to the roar of competition
engines.
MG
XPOWER XTREME RALLY is unique. It gives the general public unprecedented
access to the adrenaline charged world of top level rallying. With
200bhp on tap, the MG ZR rally cars are spearheading the revival of
MG as a dominant force in motorsport around the world, and this is

"MG
SETS FASTEST TIME AT BTCC OFFICIAL TEST".
The
MG ZS EX261 driven by Warren Hughes set the fastest time of the day
at Brands Hatch, during the first official test session of the 2003
Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship season.
"It's
a nice way to kick everything off officially and set a precedence
for the season" said Warren. "We're still experimenting
with the car and learning about the new Dunlop tyres but things are
really starting to come together. We've always been quite strong at
Brands Hatch but Mondello will be the real test before we return to
Brands again in May. I'm quietly optimistic"
MG's
new driver Colin Turkington finished in second place behind Warren
before being pipped in the closing stages of the session by Matt Neal.
Commenting on the session Colin said: "Coming up against the
other manufacturers was great and I'm pleased with the initial run.
It shows that MG is really at the sharp end. With the development
work that's been completed so far the whole package is feeling good."
Team-mate
Anthony Reid completed a strong performance in the MG and said; "It
was a significant test for us today, particularly the chance to take
a good look at all the championship contenders on the same track at
the same time. It's good to see MG at the top of the time sheet. We've
carried out a considerable amount of testing on the new tyres and
things are now looking promising."
The
first BTCC rounds take place at Mondello Park, Ireland on 20/21 April

"MG
ROVER GROUP GIVE MAXIMUM VALUE TO CUSTOMERS THROUGH GROUNDBREAKING INITIATIVE".
"MG
Rover Group has today (1 April) announced a groundbreaking initiative,
'Bring us any genuine offer and we'll beat it' - a programme of far
ranging offers that will be of great interest to all purchasers of
new cars. Consumer offers have traditionally been focused on one or
two key elements such as free insurance or a low cost finance package.
MG Rover Group were first to offer the innovative and popular 'Free
Fuel' campaign and this new approach recognises that every customer
has a different purchase requirement.
The 'Bring us any genuine offer and we'll beat it' programme, encourages
customers of new MG and Rover cars to select their preference from
a wide range of options. This may include one or more of the following:
Fuel until 2004*, LPG Band 4 conversion, 0% Finance*, Additional extras
(options and accessories), Track day experience (MG only), 2 or 3
years' servicing, Deposit contribution
Money Off*, 1 year's insurance (UK mainland only)*, Cash back, Low
finance*
* Specific terms and conditions apply
Commenting on this innovative programme, John Sanders, MG Rover Group
Sales and Marketing Director, explained: "Our approach recognises
that every customer will have a different purchase requirement. The
wide choice of options is tailored to meet individual needs and thus
give customers exactly what they want. Whatever incentive other manufacturers
offer, quite simply, we'll beat it. Whether customers want insurance,
cash-back, servicing, interest free finance, deposit contributions,
we can provide the best range of offers in the marketplace."
This
is no April Fool's joke. The purchase options are available on all
new MG and Rover cars registered between 1 April and 30 June 2003.
LPG Band 4 conversions are available on all 1.6- and 1.8-litre Rover
and MG saloon cars (excluding the MG ZR 160 / Express
160).

"PARTS
PLEDGE FOR MG EXPRESS VAN".
XPart
Ltd, a division of Phoenix Venture Holdings and a sister company to
MG Rover Group, has taken delivery of the newly announced MG Express
van to further enhance their leading parts guarantee programme.
The attractive new Anthracite MG Express van will carry the MG Rover
Parts livery and when appropriate be used to convey parts taken from
the production line to the repairing dealer, thus giving the opportunity
to reduce lead times.
The Parts Pledge provides customers of new MG and Rover cars with
peace of mind. Should a customer's car be out of service and requires
parts, the MG Rover dealer or authorised repairer will quote a completion
time. If this deadline is not met due to the late arrival of parts
then the programme will be invoked and courtesy car costs funded until
three days after the parts are delivered.
John Parkinson, managing director of XPart Ltd, said: "Introducing
the new MG Express van to our armoury will underline the fact that
we'll go to any lengths to support customers who need our parts.

"MG
SPORT & RACING LIMITED CONFIRM THREE-CAR ENTRY FOR 2003 BTCC".
Today
(28 March) MG Sport & Racing confirmed they are continuing their
association with Warren Hughes and Anthony Reid as works drivers for
the 2003 Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship. Joining
Anthony and Warren, will be former Team Atomic Kitten driver, Colin
Turkington to complete the three-car MG manufacturers entry. Colin
is no stranger to the MG ZS having competed in the 2002 BTC Touring
Independents Cup. MG entered the series for the first time at the
back end of 2001. In 2002, MG's first full assault on the title, Anthony
Reid and Warren Hughes finished 4th and 6th respectively. MG also
finished runner-up in the Manufacturers Championship whilst Colin
Turkington showed great promise in the Independents Cup securing four
wins. Commenting on the 2003 BTCC and recent testing of the new MG
ZS.
Anthony Reid "It's a great opportunity for MG, WSR and the drivers
to capitalise on the experience of last year. We've begun our testing
programme much earlier than previously and are better prepared than
ever before. The test in Spain was very encouraging and showed improvements
in all areas. Due to the fine weather we were able to achieve everything
that was required and will continue testing in the UK."
Warren Hughes "I am extremely excited going in to this season.
On paper the ingredients are in place to fight for the championship.
I feel ready to challenge after my learning season of 2002 and believe
I will be stronger. I'm very encouraged by what I've seen of the 2003
spec. MG chassis and engine. The continuity of having myself, Anthony
and WSR is important and I'm sure we will continue to work very well
and achieve some fantastic results with MG."
Colin Turkington "I'm very pleased to be back driving the MG
ZS following some good results last season and I'm confident I can
build on my experiences. After recent tests, the car is proving very
strong and I feel in a good position to turn in a good performance
and some positive results." Dick Bennetts, managing director,
WSR, (the company responsible for the design, development and management
of the MG ZS touring car) said: "WSR's design and build programme
for the 2003 MG ZS BTC cars has been right on schedule over the winter
months. The chassis has been developed further as testing in Spain
proved last month. Our design engineers are working with Dunlop to
develop the 2003 controlled tyre for the championship. It's going
to be another exciting BTCC season for MG and WSR." Kim Johnson,
director, MG Sport & Racing added: "I think we're all waiting
with anticipation for the start of the 2003 season. WSR have put a
lot of hard work into the development of the new car during the winter
months and we're encouraged by the initial tests. 2002 provided a
series of both highs and lows but we learnt a great deal in our first
full season and will come back fighting with confidence to challenge
for the title. With the introduction of new regulations, such as the
mandatory pit-stop in both races, there will be an added twist to
the action. I wish all the team the best of luck. "
MG Sport & Racing and WSR continue to work with AER (Advanced
Engine Research) to provide the K series V6 engine management for
the 2003 BTCC programme. Powertrain Ltd, a sister company to MG Sport
& Racing, will also work in conjunction with AER and WSR on the
project. Fraser Winton, managing director of Powertrain Ltd said:
"We've been working closely with the motorsport team on the 2003
car. Our engineers have worked hard to enhance the power and driveability
of the engine."
Mike Lancaster, managing director, AER added: "MG and of course
all of us at AER are eagerly anticipating the 2003 British Touring
Car Championship. A lot of hard work has gone into off-season testing
and we all hope for some good results."

"MG
TF NOW THE WORLD'S MOST BEAUTIFUL CABRIOLET".
"The
MG TF has been judged the 'World's Most Beautiful Cabriolet' at the
awards ceremony held by L'Automobile più Bella del Mondo, in
Milan. A panel of 13 international judges, made up from design experts
outside the automotive industry, credited MG TF with the class win
'for blending great originality and typical elements of MG tradition,
with a strong casual and dynamic character'.
The
World's Most Beautiful Automobile title is an established award, now
in its 10th year. It recognises design significance from a non-automotive
perspective. Judges included leading art critic Bruno Alfieri and
art-photographer Gianni Berengo Gardin. Thirty-three car product designs
are judged in nine categories.
John
Sanders, sales & marketing director, said: "This accolade
is an outstanding achievement particularly in the light of such an
impressive body of judges and another example of how the company's
talented styling and engineering teams have developed the MG TF into
a car of both substance and style."
The
Rover 75 won the high-class saloon category in 1999. The MG TF has
also been awarded 'Cabrio of the Year' at last year's Geneva Motor
Show and recently performed exceptionally well in Euro NCAP tests
with a four-star occupant and three-star pedestrian result. It is
available in four specification models, priced between £15,750
and £19,995.

"MG
ROVER'S HIGH SPEED DELIVERIES FOR COMMERCIAL VEHICLE SHOW"
MG
Rover Group was displaying its new commercial vehicles to the CV show
at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham March 18. The Rover
Commerce and MG Express vans are both represented with four model variations
- each with distinctive liveries - including an LPG equipped derivative
and one that can dramatically speed up deliveries.
Peter
Milner, general manager fleet sales, commented: "The new CDVs
are attracting considerable interest from large fleet operators, small
businessusers and for those who can benefit from VAT-registered businesses,
low insurance and personal taxation."
Also
on display is the MG Express HSSV (High Speed Service Van) that links
back to the original 1931 M-Type Midget derived vehicle specially
commissioned by MG founder, Cecil Kimber.
Today's
MG Express HSSV incorporates a race-tuned K Series engine, generating
220Ps from its lightweight construction with a rally proven specification.
Square-cut gears, Xtrac differential and 195Nm of torque produce a
very fast car capable of reaching 60mph from standstill in 6.2 seconds
and on to 100mph in 12 seconds, to a geared maximum of 135mph.
The
Rover CDV is derived from the company's best selling Rover 25. It
brings style, presence and practicality together for the first time
in the sector. Available with a 84Ps 1.4-litre petrol and 101Ps 2.0-litre
turbo diesel engine, the Rover CDV, priced from £7,072 (excl.
VAT), provides outstanding value for money. High specification features
include the intelligent TrafficMaster traffic alert system, ideal
for congestion avoidance and the Rover CDV is the only product to
feature this equipment as standard.
The
MG Express, created from the hugely successful MG ZR hot-hatch platform,
provides a new benchmark in the car derived van (CDV) sector, combining
class-leading performance with desirability and practicality. The
three-model line-up - 105 petrol, 101Ps turbo diesel and range topping
160 - all include high security protection. Prices start at £8,264
(excl. VAT).
All
vehicles feature excellent levels of specification, an interior that
includes a fully flat rear lined loadspace, partial steel bulkhead
(with the option of a full height loadspace grille) and secure lashing
points. The loadspace is best in class and panel sides are large enough
to carry a business's identity. Approved LPG conversions are available
on 1.4-litre petrol models.

"GORDON
BROWN WOULDN'T LIKE IT".
"Petrol
for free, we don't think Gordon would approve of this. It's far too
generous but we thought overtaxed car drivers would appreciate the
idea," said sales and marketing director John Sanders.
The free fuel promotion that put over 8,000 car buyers behind the
wheel of a new MG or Rover car since January is according to John
Sanders: "one of the cheekiest and most innovative promotional
campaigns we've ever tried."
MG Rover Group is taking the idea to its ultimate limits. MG Rover
staff, disguised as Gordon Brown, arrive at filling stations around
the country completely un-announced and spontaneously offer to pay
for a customer's fuel in order to promote the campaign, which runs
until the end of March 2003.
MG Rover Group's innovative promotion provides 'free fuel until 2004'
for customers buying MG and Rover cars registered before 31 March
2003.

MG
TF WINS TOP ACCOLADE IN NEW ZEALAND.
MG
TF, the UKs best-selling sports car, has been voted Performance
Car of the Year by Driver Magazine, at the Annual Motoring Industry
Car of the Year Awards in New Zealand.
Selected for its "truly sporting chassis and brisk performance",
Driver Magazine said that it "really liked the MG TF and found
it both fun and a serious performer". The MG TF beat the HSV/Monaro,
Maserati Coupe/Spyder and Mitsubishi Diamante Ralliart.
Allan Dick from Driver Magazine commented: "The MG TF 160s
new suspension set-up, improved body torsional rigidity, more powerful
engines and attractive new styling were key influences in the judging
panels decision to vote the TF Driver Magazines Performance
Car of the Year."
John Tweedy, International Markets Director at MG Rover Group, said:
"This success in the first few months of our re-entry in to New
Zealand is another example of the great enthusiasm for our products
shown in new markets and bodes well for our expansion in international
markets."

NEW
VANS TAKE MG ROVER GROUP INTO COMMERCIAL SECTOR FOR THE FIRST TIME.
MG
Rover Group’s strategy to open up niche markets with new and
exciting products sees the company enter the commercial vehicles sector
for the first time.
The
development of car derived vans from the small car platform, brings
the total number of vehicles in production at its single Longbridge
factory to eleven.
The MG Express, created from the hugely successful MG ZR hot-hatch,
provides a new benchmark in the car derived van (CDV) sector, combining
class-leading performance with desirability and practicality. The
three-model line-up – 105 petrol, 101Ps turbo diesel and range
topping 160 – include high security protection. Prices start

Guy
Pigounakis, UK Commercial Director, MG Rover Group, stated: “The
announcement of the Rover CDV and MG Express answers the demands of
individuals and small business users who desire versatile products
that are economic in operation and have distinctive style. The MG
Express and Rover CDV are class-leading delivery vehicles.”
Guy
added: ’I’m sure a great number of small businesses are
going to get very excited about these new car derived vans, which
are yet another example of MG Rover Group’s ability to bring
innovative products to the market and introduce new desirability into
an established market sector.”
A
double first for both MG and Rover is the fact that neither has produced
a car derived van before.

MG-TF
Recall.
MG
is approaching owners of MG TF sports cars, built in 2002, to check
the torque of a suspension bolt.
A
few reports have been received that identify isolated instances of
torque relaxation on the bolt used to attach the damper to the upper
suspension arm.
To
protect the long-term integrity of the suspension system, MG is implementing
a recall action on all TF models within the affected VIN range. Owners
are being requested to have the suspension bolt examined by an MG
Rover dealer at the earliest opportunity. The inspection and any remedial
action will be carried out free of charge.
Steve
Hudson, quality director, MG Rover Group, emphasised: “MG Rover
Group takes the safety of its customers and their cars very seriously.
For this reason, we are embarking on a recall action to ensure peace
of mind.”
